Kaudulla National Park, nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka's cultural triangle, is celebrated for its spectacular elephant gatherings — a phenomenon known locally as the 'Gathering.' Between September and October, over 250 wild elephants congregate around the Kaudulla Reservoir as water levels drop, creating one of the most breathtaking wildlife spectacles in all of Asia. This 6,900-hectare park is part of an interconnected corridor with Minneriya and Eco National Parks, allowing elephants to roam freely between them. Besides elephants, the park shelters leopards, sambar deer, sloth bears, and a rich variety of waterbirds including painted storks and lesser adjutants. The tranquil reservoir and lush surrounding forests make every jeep safari a scenic and unforgettable experience. Best time to visit: August to December for the famous Elephant Gathering.
